If you have worshipped with us at this service in the past you know that it makes your celebration of Resurrection Sunday all the more meaningful. We are excited about all our services leading up to and during Holy Week and want you to be a part of them.
For Maundy Thursday, the service of Tenebrae, or "service of shadows," grew out of a combination of late night and early-morning prayer. This service impresses upon the hearts of believers the awful consequences of sin and the magnitude of Jesus' gracious sacrifice.
The most distinctive feature of Tenebrae is the gradual extinguishing of lights and candles. The candles symbolize the disciples and other followers of Jesus who fled and abandoned the Lord. The ensuing darkness represents the world's increasing hostility and hatred toward the Savior, culminating in the complete darkness that covered the land at Christ's death. This service allows us to collectively experience, in part, what the disciples went through during that pivotal Friday, Saturday, and Sunday so many years ago.
Since we will only have one service, and due to its nature, please plan to arrive 10 minutes early to allow for a moment of quiet reflection before we begin.
